Vacancy defect control of colossal thermopower in FeSb2

چکیده

Iron diantimonide is a material with the highest known thermoelectric power. By combining scanning transmission electron microscope study electronic transport neutron, X-ray scattering and first principle calculation we identify atomic defects that control colossal thermopower magnitude nanoprecipitate clusters Sb vacancy ordering which induce additional phonon substantially reduce thermal conductivity. Defects are found to cause rather weak but important monoclinic distortion of unit cell Pnnm Pm. The absence along [010] for high defect concentration forms conducting path due Fe d orbital overlap. connection between anisotropy in FeSb2 paves way understanding tailoring giant related materials.

Electromechanical control of nitrogen-vacancy defect emission using graphene NEMS

Despite recent progress in nano-optomechanics, active control of optical fields at the nanoscale has not been achieved with an on-chip nano-electromechanical system (NEMS) thus far. Here we present a new type of hybrid system, consisting of an on-chip graphene NEMS suspended a few tens of nanometres above nitrogen-vacancy centres (NVCs), which are stable single-photon emitters embedded in nanod...

Colossal Seebeck effect enhanced by quasi-ballistic phonons dragging massive electrons in FeSb2

Phonon transport is an essential property of thermoelectric materials. Although the phonon carries heat, which reduces the thermoelectric efficiency, it contributes positively to the Seebeck coefficient S through the phonon-drag effect, as typified by the high-purity semiconductors, which show fairly large S at cryogenic temperatures. Although such a large S is attractive in terms of Peltier co...
